Bliss, ultimate bliss, without a care in the world – words that I can use to describe what the little fellas have on their face when I took their pictures earlier in the afternoon.
The fellas I am talking about are the residents cats housed at a friend’s place in Punggol. She is a dedicated cat-lover and practically the cats roam freely under her care. It was through another cat-lover friend, a fervent and passionate friend of cats who introduced her to me.
You could say, the four ‘Atomic kittens’ whom I have rescued had brought me there in the first place. To cut the long story short, I found 4 kittens SCREAMING their lungs at the back of the rubbish dump… one was crawling outside of the carton box and the rest were huddled together.
And the end of the story was these four atomic kittens were then brought under the care of this auntie. Charming rascals they were… but too bad, they did not make it through to see the world after a month of care. Amituofo.
Man, can be cruel at times… to think of throwing them off to die under the concrete jungle environment without food or water. This auntie once related how one small frail kitten was found dumped at the FOURTH level carpark in Marine Parade. It just goes to show how we humans mislead into thinking we are superior beings, but yet the actions prove otherwise.
The elitist concept that is propagated through the minds since young, have led to such a deplorable state of affairs. Some people might think little and even despise the animal lovers for their futile actions. They can scorn us, call us names, beat us into a pulp but we will not give up. I remembered reading on a friend’s blog of a story where a man who keeps throwing the starfishes back into the sea.
I found the following quote very meaningful...
---
"Why in the world are you throwing starfish into the water?"
"If the starfish are still on the beach when the tide goes out and the sun rises higher in the sky, they will die," replied the young man as he continued tossing them out to the sea.
"That's ridiculous! There are thousands of miles of beach and millions of starfish. You can't believe that what you are doing could possible make a difference!"
The young man picked up another starfish, paused thoughtfully and remarked as he tossed it out into the waves,
"It makes a difference to this one."

To all the animal lovers in SG: who braved sun and rain, to rescue the furry felines and canines from an uncertain death, spending money and effort to give unconditional love to these beings who share our world. HJ salute you.
